DANCING IN KNOTTED STRINGS

Once we knew how to tie all the knots

in the book that made us scouts

Once we knew how to buy all the pots

needed to mark our clattering routs

We knew it all and then forgot

and then untied from finger to heart

We knew we would not need to trot

marked by knotted strings to part

We knew we wanted a new dance

not needing any winding strings

We knew we thought we could prance

not needing all the knotted re-pings

We knew we thought we knew

We knew we thought we knew

We thought we knew dance new

We thought we knew you new

We thought we knew me new

We thought we knew string new

We thought we knew knot new

We thought we knew until we knew not

We thought we knew thought not

We thought we knew no string knot

We thought we knew no dance knot

Then, and then, and then, we knew:

No strings to lead the dance

Then, and then, and then, we knew:

No knots to chord our prance.

THOUGHT FOR THIS FRIDAY OF OUR CONNECTED LIVES:

DO NOT CUT YOUR LIFELINES!  YOU WILL ENTER

THE DANCE OF LIFE  DISCONNECTED FROM YOURSELF!

Fun/beautiful poetry! Believe it or not, in my head I heard rhymes when reading it…like in elementary school. 🙂

Lauren, so pleased you had fun with this one and yet found it profound: that is much of what I hoped to accomplish here! A real honor to receive these helpful comments from you!

Granbee, I like this continuing theme of tangled, knotted strings and things….
“not needing all the knotted re-pings” – we need to free ourselves from those old “pings” – those old mindsets (and tapes in our heads?) – the opinions of others. Time for a new (unknotted) paradigm for ourselves as individuals. At least that’s what the poem made me think of – I might be way off base, but I did love it!! 🙂

Betty, to know YOU, of all people, received so much meaning from this poem just leaves me champing at the bit to work and write and dance through my days even more! THANK YOU, dear “communicant”!
