Lenten Journey – Day 8
Biblical Scripture: Matthew 4:1-11
Open Invitation to Join Terri from
Cloaked Monk

29-Feb-12: Matthew 4:1-11

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was famished. 3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But he answered, “It is written,‘One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’… “10 Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! for it is written,‘Worship the Lord your God,and serve only him.’ “11 Then the devil left him, and suddenly angels came and waited on him.

“….and you said no one would help me or feed me if I did not go along with all those others back there beyond the stable!”

Flop-Eared Boy tweaked onto the tail of flop-eared donkey friend

So both could edge and wiggle around the rocks to the tippy-top

So both might pause some littlest while to search for crumbs round the bend

So both might get unminding of grumbling inwards without sop.

Flop-Eared Boy dare not member of thieves selling corn on that far lane

Flop-Eared Boy dare not trember of old wives screaming of hunger to come

Flop-Eared Boy dare only twitter and twitch in membrance of Babe to train

Flop-Eared Boy and flop-eared donkey to member only angels with bowls of golden plum.

All friends turned in reaching for Flop-Eared Boy and flop-eared donkey in train

All friends turned to sing and hum and clasp those four ears in warm embrace

All friends turned and turned and turned until full circles of love and light did rain

On sprouts and trouts and snouts in ready for boy and donkey just then found in full light’s trace.

I’m enjoying this Lenten journey. It’s like a daily meditation long too missing from my weeks. There is no truth like Scripture. It’s truly a balm to the fiery dart, huh? xoxo

It certainly is, Jen! So pleased to be making this Lenten Journey with you. Scriptural truths are my best foundation for meditation and for inspiration with my writing. Thank you for your enthusiastic support and encouragement. Blessings on you and your dear family!

What I love about your writing is that it creates images I can see. I can see the flop-eared boy and the flop-eared donkey being surrounded by 3 friends spinning a halo of light and love.

Yes, a happy ending for just this segment of our journey, Tots! We have a long way to go yet–and Flop-Eared Boy will be using the strength he gained from this experience to enable him to lift others up!

Rose! Temptation to salvation and everything in between. “I can resist everything except temptation” wrote Oscar Wilde. His words are funny, because they are so tragic. Your words seem to sooth over such sting. Well done.

Peter, very dear friends of mine here often say, “Our job is to love. The only person who has the job of eternal judgment is God.” This is very, very much a part of why I write the way I do! So very pleased you are in this “soothing” boat with me!

I’m running out of adjectives because I truly love “enchanting” which fully describes this journey, Rose. I’m glad to have read this happy ending, too, for Flop-Eared Boy and this line is especially warm:
“All friends turned to sing and hum and clasp those four ears in warm embrace”

I’m wondering what your process is in creating this language of your own. The words seem to be pouring out and it’s wonderful. I love it! Blessings to you!

Lauren, so glad you absorbed the lines about grabbing the four floppy ears in a postive, loving light! As far as my language development goes, I can only say I am told my ancestors were related to “the little people” in Wales!

Yes, contented critters are so very important, are they not? Especially we human critters! Thanks so very, very much for your ongoing support and excellent feedback here!
