“……and you say THE ONE HIGH PRIEST was sacrificed?”

also Christ did not glorify himself in becoming a high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him,

“You are my Son,

today I have begotten you”;

6 as he says also in another place,

“You are a priest forever,

according to the order of Melchizedek.”

7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8 Although he was a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered; 9 and having been made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him, 10 having been designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

“……and you say THE ONE HIGH PRIEST was sacrificed?”

Once down at that so clear stream all friends grinned a-beam,

Once bumbled and tumbled feetsies all cleansies critters sighed a-bye.

“Oh,  now ye needs rest and think on quest, sing on quest of sweet dream,”

So did Old Crow and Ugly Bird and Bluesey Fly swarm to all in sigh.

“Now think of this thing, this one big thing, while ye rest, most crested.”

“Now ponder all yonder, way in the yonder of men’s killing the once-Babe, THE ONE!”

“What meanst, canst meanst, so mean ol’ winged ones?” cried friends so tested.

“Why, know ye not, ye be forever in dark shadow, dark bramble, if High Priest not so done!”

SIXTH WEEK TUESDAY: DAY OF CELEBRATING DEPARTED MERCHANT OF FRIENDS

This on the morning of the afternoon of the “sending away” of a truly humble community friend:

                        I.

     OH, NO! MORNING

PAIN IN THE CRACK

           OF THE JOINT

PARTS THE WATERS FOR

          PASSAGE INTO THE

HILL COUNTRY OF

         MORNING’S AMBITIONS

POACHING ON THAT LAST

         DREAM BEFORE AWAKENINGS

THAT REMIND OF TINY JOYS

         GAINED THROUGH THE

COLDPRESS OF PAIN

                        II.

LESSONS FROM LITTLE DOG

LITTLE DOG, LITTLE DOG:

           WHERE DOES YOUR NOSE

LEAD YOU TO PROVE

            YOUR TASK?

LITTLE DOG, LITTLE DOG,

            WE KNOW IT IS YOUR

SELF-ASSIGNED WORK

             TO SNIFF OUT THE

TRAIL OF INVADERS,

             VILLAINS, CREATURE FRIENDS,

DIGESTIFS IN THE LEAVES.

             LITTLE DOG, LET ME LEARN

LITTLE DOG, LITTLE DOG:

            COME BACK TO TEACH ME

THE SECRET YOU LEARNED ON

            FIRST WHIFF AT SUNRISE;

TEACH ME TO FOLLOW MY NOSE

           TIED TO MY HEART

BEFORE MY WRINKLED-BROW GAZE

           OF DOUBT–

TEACH ME, LITTLE DOG,

           TO JUST FOLLOW

This during the funeral service, seated with good friends:

           DEPARTED MERCHANT OF FRIENDS

SUDDENLY, A GLIMPSE OF

           THAT PARALLEL UNIVERSE

SHOWN OVER THE ROBED SPEAKER,

           DOWN BETWEEN THE HEADS

OF THE HUMBLE AND THE HAUGHTY,

           FLOATING OVER GLITCHES IN THE

AV SYSTEM, BATHING ALL

             IN A PROMISE.

My friend being laid to rest after two years of health struggles, two and one-half years younger than myself (who jog-walked three miles that morning), reminds me of how truly priceless the quality of humility is in friendships.

This departed one exemplified that quality with one and all, blessing us with his helpfulnees, honesty, and gentle humility.  May we all be so gifted in our friendships.
